AXE was set to reveal its sponsorship of the FIFA World Cup 2026 for the first time. One night, one single opportunity, with FIFA's seal of approval on every second of content, in front of influencers and the general public in the heart of the Centro Histórico.

There was no margin for error.

The Challenge

An experiential marketing agency approached voidXR with a proposal for AXE. The centerpiece: a video mapping show projected onto the facade of the Museo del Estanquillo. In front of lifestyle and soccer influencers, as well as the crowd on Madero Street, the event would announce AXE as an Official Sponsor of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Mexico.

The challenge was threefold: develop the content and secure FIFA's approval; manage the permits to install projection structures on one of the busiest pedestrian avenues in the Historic Center; and produce everything in four weeks.

The agency chose voidXR because we had produced the Don Julio video mapping on that same facade a year prior. They knew the caliber of our work and knew exactly what we could achieve with that building.

The Strategic Decision

Before selecting a single projector, we defined what the audience had to feel: that Mexico City was hosting a global event, and that AXE was the main protagonist.

The piece narrated a cultural journey through the three World Cup host cities in Mexico: Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey, using their most recognizable icons: the subway, the trompo de pastor, the organ grinder, the axolotls, mariachis, and stadiums. It was not a mere catalog of images. It was an emotional progression designed to fully draw the audience into the moment.

Two decisions defined the outcome:

The first was building a three-dimensional model of the facade in Unreal Engine before producing a single scene. With FIFA in the content approval process and the agency presenting to the brand, every decision-maker had to see exactly what the audience would see. Clarity at this stage eliminated last-minute revisions and protected the project from changes that, just four weeks before the event, would have compromised the outcome.

The second was the audio-reactive system. The show was not a pre-recorded video. The visuals responded in real time to the signal from sonidera_mx, who performed live from the museum's central balcony. The building did not just play back the show; it interpreted the performance along with the DJ.

What the Audience Experienced

Guests arrived at the Museo del Estanquillo via Turibus from the Palacio de Bellas Artes. Upon arrival, the crowd gathered in front of the facade. Without delay, the countdown began directly on the building itself.

A white X emerged from the central structure, pulsing like a heartbeat against a black background, accompanied by pre-Hispanic sounds. The X transformed into the number 30 as the countdown commenced, with each beat marking the next number.

At zero, the building erupted in color. For two minutes, cultural icons from the three host cities occupied every inch of the corner facade: medallions shifted into references for each city, a subway car crossed from window to window, a trompo de pastor spit-roast transformed into a heart, axolotls swam between the arches, and mariachis emerged from the sides. The 2D animation integrated the building’s architecture as a living part of the narrative through video mapping.

As the tension peaked, the screen went black. Audio from a high-stakes soccer match filled the air. A young man applied AXE in the shape of an X, grabbed a ball, and kicked it toward the audience. The ball revealed the announcement: AXE, FIFA, Official Sponsor of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

From the balcony, sonidera_mx emerged. The facade responded in real time to every transition in her set.

The crowd danced on Madero Street.

The Process

Four weeks of development. One single night to set up and test on Madero Street.

The original plan budgeted two days for installation. It became just one: erecting structures over 7 meters tall, installing three 40,000-lumen projectors, setting up the elevated front-of-house to guarantee sightlines over the crowd, routing the audio feed from sonidera_mx's console on the balcony, calibrating the return signal for the audio-reactive system, and running full technical rehearsals before doors opened.

Installing in the Historic Center is entirely different from working in a closed venue. It demands tight coordination with city authorities, high-altitude rigging in heavy pedestrian zones, and strict alignment with the event's timeline. What allowed us to absorb that pressure was resolving every single variable virtually before setting foot on site. When the crew arrived on the street, they weren't discovering the space; they already knew it down to the millimeter.

The load-in succeeded. The show started exactly on time.

The Result

The activation achieved its core objective: revealing AXE’s sponsorship of FIFA 2026 at a high-impact cultural event for influencers and the general public, backed by the visual and operational execution required for communication at this level.

What no report fully captures: on one of the busiest pedestrian avenues in the Historic Center, passersby who weren't invited stopped to watch. And then to dance.

That behavior cannot be programmed. It is the result of a show that connects before people even understand why.

The organic content generated by attendees that night extended the activation's reach far beyond the event itself, precisely what the brand and agency set out to achieve.
